Mekong

The Thai name for the river is Mae Nam Khong.

Mae Nam means river (literally: Water Mother)

and Khong is its name from the Sanskrit Ganga.

There are several scenic and sacred places along this river,

some very old, a parallel with the holy river Ganga in India.
