Sala Kaew

About 8 km from Nong Khai.

This strange Hindu-Buddhist shrine, established in 1978, is a tribute to Luang Pu Bunleua Surirat.

He was a yogi-priest-shaman who made a combination

of Hindu and Buddhist mythology and iconography into a cryptic whole.

The temple has many bizarre cement statues of Buddha, Shiva and other Hindu deities.

They ware all cast by unskilled artists under Luang Pu's direction.
